5 things I learned about dances from the movies (That don’t actually happen)
1. All dances have live bands (seen in: Countless teen flicks)
I don’t know how much of a budget these schools had, but I never, not once, had a live band at a school dance. The best we could hope for was an aging, balding DJ with “Lady in Red”, “With or Without You” and “Boot Scootin’ Boogy” on repeat.
2. The punch is always spiked. (seen in:everything)
I am not disputing that if there was punch it would be spiked. It probably would be. I am disputing the fact that there would be punch in the first place. The only beverage that was every provided at my high school was the water at the drinking fountain.
3. There will be a separate, more romantic and secluded area to dance for “serious couples” that usually features a string quartet or acoustic band, and sometimes a fancy gazebo! (seen in Cinderella Story, Twilight, others)
Every time I see this in a movie I am thinking one thing: you really think that there would be a place that is secluded area that there would just be no chaperon? Right.
4. The prom king/queen is announced at the dance
Does this happen at other people’s schools? I can only draw on my own experience, but they announced them like a week in advance, and they repeat the winners at the dance, but there was no tense moment where it may or may not be the underdog that wins.
5. There will be a choreographed dance number or musical number during the dance.
Please let this happen in real life!
